What happens now?
Our Village
Sixpenny Handley has a lovely mix of housing, mostly from Victorian to modern as the Great Fire of 1892 destroyed much of the traditional High Street. This means we also have a great mix of people living here from communting professionals to young families and the older generation.
The village is served by our own school, doctors surgery, the Blandford to Salisbury bus and village shops.
Our Parish Council is based in Town Farm Workshops.
Businesses
As well as our visable shops, Handley also supports a growing number of local businesses. Some from Town Farm Workshops or in business units on local farms many others working from home.
Many of the businesses can be seen in the free bi-monthly parish magazine The Downsman. The Downsman Business Support Group has also been formed this year to help local businesses answer questions together and grow.
Activities and Entertainment
The village runs many clubs and groups. From toddler groups to The Chase Community Friends lunches and sports from tennis to pilates and football.
We are very lucky to have fundraising festivals for our local community and the past couple of years has seen The Big Session and the Waistcoat Festival raise thousands of pounds for the Community Fund and other causes.
